Santa Sinha's word prevails over Minister's clout

It is now certain that the children's films, ''No toilets for girls'' & ''Playing dangerously produced by the 'child reporters' of the Medak district of Andhra Pradesh will be screened as scheduled at the 16 th International Children's Film Festival beginning today at Hyderabad. It has come to light that Minister Githa Reddy tried to block the screening of the films at the film festival as they portrayed a negative picture of the status of the schools in the districts. She obviously feared that these two films would badly project the Medak district to which she belonged.
A section of the Press carried today news stories of a senior Minister putting pressure on the UNICEF and University of Hyderabad which helped the children produce the two documentaries. Dr.Vinod, who helped the children in the making of these innovative film ventures, confirmed to teluguone.com in a telephone conversation that there could be some attempts to stop the screening of these films. ''Santha Sinha, Chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, had to intervene to see that the films are screened without any obstruction'', Vinod said adding that the UNICEF and University of Hyderabad also assured him on their screening. The films are obviously meant for developing the creative and visual communication skills of the children.
